Promote what you love, instead of bashing what you hate.

Imagine this scenario: You’re in a wonderful mood, enjoying a great day. Along comes a person who is complaining about everything. They just can’t seem to say a single positive word. They walk away, leaving you deflated. It feels like all of the positive energy was sucked right out of you.

Now, consider all of the times that you were that person who was doing all of the complaining. It’s not an ideal way to live, sucking the joy out of the world with your negativity. You can dislike something, then decide not to spend your time spreading negativity. A better way to spend your time and energy would be promoting what you love. You could use your voice to motivate people instead of deflating their moods.

The cold hard truth about complaining is that it’s boring. Some people may think they’re gaining popularity when they attract others who are spewing the same negativity. At the end of the day, hate breeds hate. You can’t change the world with hate. However, if a group of people find a creative way to spread the word about what they love, it will inspire others. Love is interesting. Passion and hard work directed towards a goal are inspirational. Complaints are simply a dime a dozen.

  1. I agree, complaining isn’t helping anyone. I noticed that it’s hard to see a bigger picture when you are preoccupied with expressing your negativity out loud, it blurs your vision, it reduces the chances to become happier and it also worsens your health.

  2. I’ve encountered plenty of Christians who like to quote “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”. That’s actually from the rabbit Thumper in the movie Bambi. It’s not a direct quotation from the Bible, but rather a paraphrase of some biblical principles.

Some scriptures from the Christian Bible that would support this quote are:

    – Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (NIV)

    – Proverbs 16:24: “Kind words are like honeyโ€”sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” (NLT)

    – Colossians 4:6: “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (NIV)

    – James 1:26: “Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” (NIV)

Now as to how many church-goers actually follow that advice, that’s a whole other story.

  3. This is very well written! I agree that positivity in this world is very important. If you donโ€™t mind me asking, what inspired you to write this piece?

  4. I agree completely that people are bitter because of a lot of things. Including there circumstances such as loss of loved ones, loss of employment, or just overall sickness. But can I show you a scripture from the Bible about how God feels about the hatred in the world?

  5. The scripture is found at Proverbs 15:17-โ€œBetter is a dish of vegetables where there is love, than a fattened bull where there is hatred.โ€ This scripture is comforting to me because it proves that God does not approve of the hatred in this world around us.
